Hello, I’m Miss Smith, this will be my second year of teaching at Templars & I cannot wait to get to know all the individual personalities of the students in Hollybank this year & see what they are going to achieve over the course of the year.
Useful information:
- PE kits should be brought in on Monday to ensure that it is available and taken home on Friday to be washed.
- Our PE days are a Tuesday which will be delivered by me (Miss Smith) & a Wednesday by out PE coach, Mr Girbbon
- Water bottles are expected to be brought in everyday to ensure children have access throughout the day.
Reading
Reading is vital to a child’s education & development. It is beneficial for them to read to others, where they can be questioned and there full understanding of a text developed & can also help improve their confidence.
Children should be reading as much as possible at home & this should be documented in their reading records, these will be checked regularly. Once a child has read three times in a row they will receive a token for the weekly raffle to win a small prize of their choosing
Times Tables Rockstars
Times tables are crucial for anyone & is a skill we use more than we realise. It will help the children with their daily arithmetic and their maths in general.
English
In English we will be looking at arrange of both fictional and non-fictional topics. Children will have the opportunity to plan their writing by identifying the audience and purpose, as well as, having the opportunity to self-edit their work to make it the best it can be (which is good practise for year 6).
Topic of the Spring Term - Groundbreakins Greeks
This project teaches children about developments and changes over six periods of Ancient Greek history, focusing on the city state of Athens in the Classical age and exploring the lasting legacy of Ancient Greece.
