Miss E Smith – Class Teacher
Hello, I’m Miss Smith.
To say I’m pleased to be Baker Street’s class teacher this year would be an understatement. This will be my first year as a class lead & I cannot wait to get to know all the individual personalities of the students in Baker Street this year & see what they are going to achieve over the year.
Over the year I am looking forward to teaching the multiple different themes we have planned.
The reason for choosing the class name of Baker Street is simply because I enjoy reading especially crime fiction & you can’t get any better than the most famous detective, fictional or otherwise, Sherlock Holmes.
Useful information:
- Reading diary and reading book in school with them every day, this is their responsibility and part of our expectations.
- Water bottles need to be in each & every day, it is part of our school expectations.
- PE kits should be brought in on Monday to ensure that it is available and taken home on Friday to be washed.
Reading
Reading is vital to a child’s education & development. It is beneficial for them to read to others, where they can be questioned and there full understanding of a text developed & can also help improve their confidence.
Children should be reading as much as possible at home & this should be documented in their reading records, these will be checked regularly. Once a child has read three times in a row they will receive a token for the weekly raffle to win a small prize of their choosing
Times Tables Rockstars
Times tables are crucial for anyone & is a skill we use more than we realise. It will help the children with their daily arithmetic and their maths in general.
Maths
In Maths we will be continuing with Power Maths.
In the first term the focus will be as follows:
- Unit 1: Place value within 1,000,000 (1)
- Unit 2: Place value within 1,000,000 (2)
- Unit 3: Addition and subtraction
English
In English we will be looking at arrange of both fictional and non-fictional topics. Children will have the opportunity to plan their writing by identifying the audience and purpose, as well as, having the opportunity to self-edit their work to make it the best it can be (which is good practise for year 6).
Please find below our Timetable, Mid Term Plan for year 5 as well as out Long Term Plan.
