Elm Rise
Welcome Elm Rise!
My name is Miss Manzano. I will be your year 3 class teacher.

Here is our class timetable.
3 interesting facts about me:
-I was born in the Philippines (in Asia) and can speak the language Tagalog.
- Some of my family live across the world: USA, Canada, United Arab Emirates, and (of course) the Philippines.
-When I was younger, my dream was to become a teacher (look where I am now – dreams do come true if you work hard!)
I wonder what your three interesting facts are. I can’t wait to get to know every single one of you, your passion/interest, and how you learn. I am certain that we will all grow together this year.

The area is known for its quiet, suburban charm, well-maintained properties, and friendly community atmosphere, with gardens and green spaces contributing to the overall pleasant environment. Historically, Witham has evolved from a market town to incorporate modern residential developments like Elm Rise while retaining its historical character, with the town itself dating back to Roman times and reflecting a rich history in its architecture and layout.
Maths
At Templars, we use Power Maths as the foundation of our maths lesson. This is a stimulating mastery approach, which has been recognised by the Department for Education.
The lesson consists of discovery, sharing, teamwork, practice, and reflection. Moreover, it focuses on three aspects: concrete, pictorial, and abstract methods. Children are encouraged to explain their answers for each problem, using their oracy skills each day through the use of concrete resources, pictorial representations and abstract thinking.
At the centre of this curriculum is the idea that all pupils can attain and be prosperous mathematicians with the right attitude and growth mind-set.
Spring term 1 Maths
In Spring term 2, we will be moving on to mass. This unit is important because it strengthens children’s knowledge of mass: an important area of learning which has many real-life applications. First, children will learn how to measure and read a scale, focusing upon unmarked intervals. Next, different masses will be compared and ordered. Following this, children will learn to add and subtract different amounts using a range of strategies. Finally, they will apply their knowledge to real-life problems – an important skill for children to learn in order to work towards mastery.
English
In Spring term 2, we will be looking at a couple of hooks: Spies in disguise, Despicable me and links to our Geography learning.
Within our key theme, we will be looking at a variety of learning objectives and strengthening, deepening our understanding:
- maintain the correct tense (including present and perfect tense) throughout a piece of writing
-Use the underlying structures, grammar and vocabulary of written texts
-Extend the range of sentences with more than one clause by using a wide range of conjunctions, including when, if, because, although
-Use apostrophes for singular and plural possession
(Have a look at the MTP for Spring term 2 at the bottom for the break down)
Things to remember:
- PE kits are to be in on Monday and to be taken home on Friday to get washed. PE days are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Earrings must be removed on PE days before children arrive at school. Staff are not allowed to remove these for the children. Without the correct PE kit, children will not be able to participate and will need to do other alternative work.
- School water bottles are to be brought in every day and taken at the end of the day to be washed.
- Uniform
At Templars, we take pride in our uniform, and we expect the children to maintain the high standard they have shown so far. Please ensure all uniforms are labelled with the child’s name, as alternative uniforms cannot be provided should theirs go missing.
- Homework will be set on a Thursday and is due the next Thursday. There will be an English and Maths activity to complete.
