Enabling our pupils to use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real
and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants
and values.
At Templars Academy, our Design and Technology curriculum fosters creativity, problem-solving, and practical skills by engaging children in designing, making, and evaluating products. We aim to develop their understanding of materials, mechanisms, and processes, enabling them to become confident innovators and thoughtful consumers.
Our curriculum:
- Encourages children to explore and apply the design process, including researching, planning, prototyping, and refining ideas.
- Develops practical skills in using a range of tools, materials, and techniques safely and effectively.
- Builds knowledge of different materials (such as wood, textiles, and food), components, and technologies.
- Promotes understanding of how products are designed and made to meet needs, considering function, aesthetics, and sustainability.
- Provides opportunities to evaluate their own work and that of others, fostering critical thinking and continuous improvement.
- Sequences learning to ensure progressive development of design and making skills across key stages.
- Integrates cross-curricular links, especially with science, mathematics, and art, to enrich learning experiences.
- Supports children in understanding the impact of design and technology on daily life, industry, and the environment.
We are committed to delivering a high-quality Design and Technology education that inspires innovation, resilience, and practical creativity.
