Wanstead station was built in the 1930's but was not opened owing to the outbreak of World War II. During the War it was used to make aircraft parts. 2000 people worked in the tunnels which had their own railway, canteen and rest areas.
Key information:
- PE is on a Tuesday and Thursday, so please ensure kits are in on these days and that earing are removed.
- Please make sure children have their school water bottle, reading diary and reading book in school with them everyday
- Homework will be distributed on a Friday (Phonics/English and maths on alternating weeks) and returned to school every Thursday. It would be great if everyone could have a go!
Hello, I’m Mrs De Bruyn and I am so excited to be Wanstead’s class teacher this year. I cannot wait to start the learning journey with everybody. I have a passion for English and love books of any sort.
My favourite thing to do is spend time with my family and travel. I have been very fortunate to live and work in different countries and love learning about different cultures and customs.
I am looking forward to unlocking all of the children’s passions and helping them to reach their best potential.
Maths
In maths this half term we will be learning about measure - including centimetres, metres and comparing results. We will also be learning to tell the time and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times. We will also look at time to the nearest 5 minutes. We will finish the half term by using mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement, including movement in a straight line and distinguishing between rotation as a turn and in terms of right angles for quarter, half and three-quarter turns (clockwise and anti-clockwise)
English:
Throughout our English work this term we will be continuing to build on their phonic knowledge and application. Reading is still a priority area this term and we will be ensuring that this aspect of their English is developed. We also be focusing on building their comprehension skills through dedicated comprehension lessons. Children will be supported to incorporate all the grammar, punctuation and spelling that we are learning into sustained pieces of writing.
Science:
This half term in Science we will be looking at the uses of materials. Children will carry out investigations to learn about the properties of different materials and how they can be shaped. We will link properties to uses and objects and why certain materials are used to make objects.
Connected Curriculum:
In geography, we will learn about the physical and human features of coastal regions across the United Kingdom, including detailed explorations of different coastal towns. In Art we will be learning about the visual elements of flowers, including shape, texture, colour, pattern and form. We will also explore various artistic methods, including drawing, printmaking and 3-D forms, using paper and clay. In PE, our focus is yoga.
