School Councillors - Mya and Leon

Our class comprises some fantastic characters who aren't afraid of a challenge. We are working hard on adopting a growth mindset, and they are always keen to remind me that it is okay to make mistakes - I need to "cross it out and try again"!
PE is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so please ensure kits are in on those days (please ensure earrings are taken out that morning).
Reading three times a week can earn a raffle ticket (with the chance to win a prize) and a reading certificate!
If you need to change your reading book, please leave your books in your reading record in Mrs Taylor's tray.
Homework will be given out every Friday (Phonics/English and maths on alternating weeks). Please return this, with its folder, by Thursday.

Class Teacher - Miss Marshall
Hi everyone! I am Miss Marshall, and I am very excited to be joining Templars Academy and the MAT this year. I look forward to talking to you, and I can't wait to teach Year 1.
I sometimes have a bubbly brain, so the children need their good listening ears on to ensure I don't make a mistake!
The 3 Most Important Things to Know About Me!
1. I LOVE Harry Styles - I'm seeing him for the 6th time this June Ask your child about the 3 reasons to interrupt me!
2. I enjoy seeing musicals and have even made an appearance in a couple! Some of my favourite musicals include Hamilton, In the Heights, Shrek the Musical and Legally Blonde.
3. Disney is my happy place. I met Mickey and friends for the first time last year (2022) but I was already planning the second trip on the plane home!
LSA - Mrs Taylor
Mrs Taylor is the newest addition to Grange Hill and we are very lucky to have her in our class. She makes us feel safe at school, and we always know we can go to her if we have a problem. She's really kind and we enjoy learning with her every day!
Our lessons:
English and Phonics:
In phonics, most of the children are now consolidating Phase 5 sounds and alternative graphemes. Year Ones need to be able to blend and segment using their sounds and we are slowly building strategies for them to pass their phonics screening check. We also work with Pearson's Bug Club Phonics to make sure the books they are reading are in line with the sounds they are learning.
This term, in English, children are beginning to choose taught vocabulary and grammar features that are fit for purpose. They are developing stamina for quality writing at this point of the academic year.
Maths:
Number and Place Value is the first topic of focus in Maths in Year One and as we follow the Power Maths work scheme, the children will learn strategies through characters to help them to count, add, subtract and order. We are currently working on numbers to 50.
Science and the Connected Curriculum:
This year, Grange Hill will be learning all about the world around them. They will be learning about plants and plant parts. In our Connected Curriculum, we are learning about the school days and comparing schools in the present day to Victorian schools.
