Welcome to Hyde Park Corner and Green Park Class Page
Welcome to our Reception Class page, where we love to learn through play!
On this web page we will be putting lots of information about all the exciting things we will be doing in our class throughout the year.
Reception is a very important and exciting time for children and parents. We offer the children lots of opportunities to learn and explore through play within our continually changing provision areas (indoors and outdoors). The children will learn through a mixture of adult led and child initiated learning, both of which are as equally important in a child's development.
Opportunities are provided in the Reception classes for child initiated structured free play, as well as adult directed tasks that cover all seven areas of learning. For example, to enhance ‘Communication and Language’ skills children will be encouraged to take part in storytelling and role-play. As part of their ‘Physical Development’ children will be experimenting with space as well as handling a range of equipment safely and with control. In ‘Literacy’ children will be introduced to letter sounds through Phonics sessions and will begin to concentrate their efforts on building simple decodable words. The ‘Numeracy’ focus will be securing ordering, counting and numeral recognition up to 10 and beyond. There will also be a focus on investigating grouping and combining objects.
Our Topic this term is 'All About Me'
Please regularly read a range of books from your collections at home and the local library. It will be beneficial to practise lots of counting up, counting back and finding one more and one less up to 10 ensuring that each item is touched when counted. This will help your child’s practical maths and support the number skills we are teaching at school.
All items of clothing need to be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
For this half term PE sessions will be twice weekly. Please make sure that your child’s PE kit is in on these days and please check that their plimsoles still fit each time the kit comes home for washing at half term. Earrings will need to be removed on PE days; if your child has earrings in that they cannot remove themselves, they will not be able to join in.
