This Joint Local Governing Body, an amalgamation of governors from Templars Academy and Powers Hall Academy, was established in September 2017.
Local Governing Boards (LGBs) are a committee of the Board of Trustees and their remit and decision-making powers are determined by the MAT in its Scheme of Delegation. It is entirely at the Board’s discretion what it wishes to delegate. However, Governors still have an important role to play in monitoring key performance indicators and act as a critical friend to the headteachers/heads of school and the academies’ senior leadership teams, providing challenge where appropriate.
We are currently operating joint LGBs for our Witham and Colchester schools. This provides oversight, accountability and governance for two schools and a constructive voice for those schools within the Trust. Monitoring will be a major focus for these governors as well as understanding performance data.
School governance regulations and the Department for Education (DfE) Governance Handbook identify three core functions for Governing Boards:-
From time to time we seek parents and local business people to join our Local Governing Boards. If you would be interested, please contact the Chair of Governors ChairofGovs@templars-pri.essex.sch.uk.
