Rod Lane - Chair of Governors
I have been a governor for over 30 years and am currently on the governing bodies of Powers Hall and Templars Academies in Witham and Great Bradfords Infant and Nursery School in Braintree. I am also a Member of Connected Learning MAT Ltd, Witham.
I an Executive Committee member of the Essex School Governance Association and represent the association on them on North Essex Children’s Partnership Board and the Preparing for Adulthood Forum. I represent Primary School Governors on the Schools' Forum which I currently chair and am also a member of the School-Led Improvement System Project Board, Early Years & Childcare Partnership Forum, Early Years Funding Formula Review Group and SEND Capital Investment Project Board.
I have many years experience as a Governor, having joined the Governing Body of Powers Hall Academy in 2004. I became Chair of that body in 2008. I retired from my role as a senior manager at Anglia Ruskin University in 2006, so brought considerable experience of education management and education finances to the role of Governor. In 2013 when Connected Learning Multi academy Trust was inaugurate, I became its Chair, a role I held until 2016. The Governing Body of a school seeks to support and challenge the school, its staff and pupils, to help it to provide the very best education to its pupils and it has an important role in ensuring that its finances remain on a sound footing. My qualifications include a B.A. (Hons) Economics and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies.
I became a Governor at Templars Academy in September 2016. I qualified as a teacher in 1989 and became Headteacher of Powers Hall Infant School in April 2004. I believe that the needs of children must be at the heart of all school improvement in order that children develop a love of learning and the skills that will equip them to be good citizens of the future.
