Welcome to Jackdaw Class Page
Jackdaws have had a great 1/2 term. We are particularly proud of your homework presentations. Everyone completed the homework and the work was brilliant. Well done.
This half term our English work will use 'Voices in the Park' by Anthony Browne as a 'hook' to build our work around. We will be discovering how biographies and persuasive texts are written and creating written work of our own. In grammar and punctuation lessons we will learn how to write complex sentences that include a relative clause and use commas to avoid ambiguity. The children will be working on and improving their spellings including using an apostrophe for possession and contractions, revising plurals and learning how to use a hyphen. We will also continue to learn the year 5 and 6 spelling words. (These are available further down the page.)
In maths we will be developing our understanding multiplication and division. This will include knowing how to multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 and learning formal methods including short division. We will also complete work about statistics: reading and interpreting line graphs and reading timetables. The children will also learn how to calculate the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes.
In science, the children will deepen their understanding of living things with a particular focus on life cycles.
In creative links the children will focus on art this term. They will be learning to develop control of a range of materials, tools and techniques. The children will look at different techniques used in art including Lowry and Fauvists. In the second half of the term the children will put the skills they have learnt into their own creations.
We have indoor and outdoor P.E. on Tuesday and Wednesday. As we sometimes have the opportunity to participate in sport on other days please ensure that you have your P.E. kit in school at all times.
