Welcome to Jackdaw Class Page
Jackdaws have made a fantastic start to the new school year - well done.
This half term our English work will take as a focus a narrative written by David Walliams, called 'Gangsta Granny'. We will be using this text to inspire out writing. We will be working on associated activities for the remainder of the term in English lessons, in both fiction and non-fiction areas. The children will be working on and improving their spellings including the letter string 'ough', silent letters and homophones. We will also be learning the year 5 and 6 spelling words. (these are available further down the page.)
In maths we will be developing our understanding of place value with numbers to 1 million, improving our skills of using formal methods for addition and subtraction, as well as solving problems. The children will also continue to develop their skills of fractions by identifying equivalent fractions, recognising mixed number and improper fractions and adding and subtracting them.
In science, the children will deepen their understanding of materials and their properties.
In creative links the children will focus on music for the first half term. They will be exploring different music from around the world and learning to imitate and copy a chosen artist. They will also create their own composition which will include a variety of techniques and skills
We have indoor and outdoor P.E. on Tuesday and Wednesday. As we sometimes have the opportunity to participate in sport on other days please ensure that you have your P.E. kit in school at all times.
